For the third time already corporate responsibility and innovative products are honored with the EISEN Award at the EISENWARENMESSE – International Hardware Fair. In cooperation with the Federal Association of the German DIY, Building and Garden Specialist Stores (BHB), the Koelnmesse will distribute the prize for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and thus rewards ideas and strategies that specifically aim at sustainable development. Cologne 2014 International Hardware Fair: Final Round-Up

This year’s Cologne International Hardware Fair saw 2,783 exhibitors from 53 countries and some 50,000 trade visitors from 136 lands, once again confirming the position of this event as the world’s top location for the hardware industries and associated innovators. Commenting on the positive trends with respect to both the quality and quantity of exhibitors and visitors, the chief executive of the Cologne Fair Katharina C. Hamma said: “We are absolutely delighted that this year, the supply-side grew by 4.5 percent in comparison with the previous event. In addition, the number of trade visitors remained stable and enjoyed a wider international mix.” read more…

Eisen 2014 Award Short-List Announced

This year saw no fewer than 80 nominations for the 2014 Eisen Award, from which the selectors have chosen a short-list of 13 companies. The Awards will be announced and presented at the Cologne International Hardware Fair annual Welcome Party on the first evening of the fair on 9 March, to be held in the Theater am Tanzbrunnen. A quick glance at the calendar shows there are only very few days to go: the world’s leading hardware trade fair in Cologne is poised for lift-off and the temperature is rising – for visitors and exhibitors alike. This year sees the second round of Eisen Awards under the joint auspices of the Cologne Fair, the ZHH Zentralverband Hartwarenhandel and BHB Handelsverband Heimwerken, Bauen und Garten trade associations. read more…

Together, they will show a truly comprehensive overview of just about everything that is required in the hardware trade. toom Baumarkt invests in Green Buildings

toom Baumarkt has embarked on an energy efficiency programme for its existing stores and also in the construction of new ones. This year toom will reopen more than 20 upgraded and enlarged stores, to be followed next year by two new ‘Green Building’ outlets. In the Spring of 2015 toom will open an additional Green Building store at Alzey in Germany’s Rhineland Palatinate. read more…

‘Green’ Rawl Plug

The UX green from fischer is described by its manufacturer fischer as the first universal rawl plug manufactured from renewable resources. It is made from  polyamide PA 6.10, which the fixtures manufacturing specialist declares as consisting of more than 50 percent renewable ingredients. The raw material consists sebaceous acid, primarily consisting of castor oil. read more…
