Two DIY Lifetime Awards

For the first time, the European DIY-Retail Association has made two simultaneous DIY-Lifetime-Awards in this, the eighth year of the Award’s history: the recipients are Karl-Heinz Knoke and Dr. Gerd Müller-van Ißem, recognised for their lifetime achievements. Previous winners included such retail personalities as Otmar Hornbach (Hornbach Baumärkte), Manfred Maus (Obi), Karlheinz Essl (Baumax) and Klaus Fischer (Fischerwerke). read more…

Hammer in Armoured Steel

 

Home improvement chain store Hornbach has announced production and sale of a limited edition of hammers made from armoured steel. In December last year Hornbach purchased a 1985 Czech-made BMP-1 amphibious infantry fighting vehicle. This 13.5 ton tracked vehicle was originally in service with the Czech Army.  read more…

Hornbach Earnings Pass 3 Billion Euros

 

Hornbach is successful: last year Hornbach Holding AG increased turnover by 6.2 percent to 3.2 billion Euros. At the same time earnings before interest and taxes increased by 6.3 percent to 169.1 billion million Euros. The board chairman Albrecht Hornbach described the results for 2011/2012 (1.03.12 to 29.02.12) as “first class”. The S-Dax index-listed business has also succeeded in increasing market share in Germany and is planning to open up to 15 new super-stores over the next two years. read more…

‘Music’, To The Ears

 

From Sunday 29 April the Hornbach home improvement store chain will be broadcasting a new TV advertising spot. Going under the name Symphony, the spot is an extension of the existing highly successful Keiner spürt es so wie Du campaign (‘Nobody experiences it like you’). The spot consists of a sequence of DIY tasks, each bearing a considerable resemblance to music making, and the emotions they arouse in the carpenter, painter, masonry drill operator and so on. read more…

Hornbach: WWF Good Practice Business Award

 

The WWF World Wild Fund for Nature has run a survey of the woodworking industries to establish the degree to which they use wood from certificated renewable resources. The survey also examined whether the products are promoted and labelled as such for end-customers and covered products at seven home-improvement and DIY-stores, with Hornbach coming out on top with the most points. The company’s press release said: “This result is confirmation of the many years of effort we have invested in the responsible use of forest resources, both in terms of the ecology and social factors.” read more…
