toom Baumarkt has embarked on an energy efficiency programme for its existing stores and also in the construction of new ones. This year toom will reopen more than 20 upgraded and enlarged stores, to be followed next year by two new ‘Green Building’ outlets. Kingfisher brings Screwfix to Germany

There is now a shift in the German home-improvement retail business: after the recent Praktiker insolvency Kingfisher – the world’s Number 3 DIY group after Lowe’s and Home Depot – is planning to enter the hotly-contested German market. The British retailer has announced it is to establish four test outlets for its specialist Screwfix fittings and fixtures products, sold through small-scale specialist outlets.
