The European DIY-Retail Association (EDRA) goes from strength to strength: it has now been joined by Union DIY, a Russian trade association which numbers eight home improvement retail chains as members. The members of Union DIY have a total of 93 retail outlets turning over the equivalent of 700 million Euros. The chairman of Union DIY is Rinat Mukhametvaleev (the CEO of Trest SCM), who represents the interests of the GHIN Global Home Improvement Network and now joins the board of the EDRA. The accession of Union DIY brings membership of the EDRA to exactly 100 companies. EDRA members now manage 13,500 retail outlets employing 850,000 persons in 50 countries, together turning over 130 billion Euros. read more…

The second Global DIY Summit takes place on 6 – 7 June 2013 in Rome and has a line-up of top speakers, several of whom on day one will address the challenges to be faced by the rapid advent of digital markets. They include Ian Cheshire (Group CEO, Kingfisher), Sergio Giroldi (CEO, Obi) and Carlos Wulf (CEO, Easy), who will relate their experience with the multi-channel business. Representing the internet economy is Alastair Bruce (Director Google Germany), who will describe how the DIY-player can take best advantage of the web. The second European DIY-Forum held in Paris drew an audience of almost 500 from 31 countries. Most of the feedback from this networking event was highly positive. The EDRA president Régis Degelcke said it was ‘fantastic’ how many industry representatives he had met. A measure of the success was the fact that he had garnered more than 50 visiting cards during the event, and was a measure of the degree of information exchange. read more…

The second European Home Improvement Forum takes place at the ‘Newport Bay’ Disney Convention Centre in Paris on 31 May to 1 June. By early May there were 430 registrations by suppliers and retailers from 29 countries.
The Forum is organised by two European trade associations, fediyma (the European Federation of DIY Manufacturers) and EDRA (European DIY-Retail Association). This year’s forum motto will be: ‘From DIY to Home & Garden Improvement’.
