Sales in DYI stores a bit under the weather due to rainy March

The German DIY stores generated total gross sales of EUR 3.76 billion in the first quarter, down 7.1 percent on the previous year, according to figures published by the German DIY Association (Handelsverband Heimwerken, Bauen und Garten e.V., BHB) in mid-May. This is mainly due to a cool and rainy March, in which business with garden supplies lagged very significantly behind last year’s figures. Due to good weather and good figures in April and May, however, industry representatives are confident that this result can be balanced out again – also thanks to consistently strong (and weather-independent) sales drivers such as the Tools/Machines/Workshop Equipment division, which, at EUR 297.2 million, even increased its previous year’s result by 1.8 percent. And once the outdoor season really starts, DIY enthusiasts, too, will flock to the garden – good prospects for continued positive development.

But naturally, the best new tools and the latest industry innovations will be on display at the INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE FAIR from 01.03. – 04.03.2020, so come by in any case!
