Their repertoire extends from Mozart to Dire Straits; international hits from the last 300 years of music history such as We will rock you, Beethoven’s Ode to Joy and the theme tune from Mission Impossible, are all on the programme for the current Yellow Hands-Tour. What makes this band so different? Their musical instruments were constructed mainly from DIY products such as drainpipes, keys, rubber gloves, flowerpots, garden hoses, wheelbarrows and vacuum cleaners.
The instrumental line-up numbers about 50 unique sound sources – each one a feast for the eyes and an acoustic highlight. So it should perhaps not come as any surprise that in 2010 the Yellow Hand Band won the much sought-after INTHEGA Prize in the category Music Theatre Crossover. The jury said: “Their stage presence is a grandiose show for eyes and ears. It is simply amazing what they have achieved with their combination of musical ability, superb imagination, comedy talent and DIY-skill.”
Described by the regional Badische Zeitung newspaper as “A cultural collection of DIYers”, the band performs in Stade on 15.12.2011 and in Wolfsburg on 16.12.2011. Their next TV appearance is scheduled for Saturday 7 January on ARD (German television) at 20:15.
